It was my great blessing to have Guruatma as the person who cared for me after the birth of our daughter in Austin, TX in 1991. I could not have asked for nor imagined anyone who could have done a better job. In the yogic culture, it is traditional for families to have a helper for 40 days after they give birth so that the family can focus on bonding with the new baby. Because I was 38, it was my first birth and I had a long labor, followed by a C-section, recovery was super challenging. I’m not sure how we could have made it without her! She was at the hospital putting rescue remedy down by throat as I was rolled to the delivery room. And when I came home from the hospital, I was greeted with a clean, cozy house and awesome food prepared. She continued to cook amazing, nurturing and yummy food every day, even making special treats for my extended family when they would come to visit. She gave me daily foot massages, helped out with our daughter as a second Mama when my husband and I were both exhausted, was the ‘rock’ during a time of huge transition in our household and was a strong emotional and spiritual support to our family during a very challenging time. In her typical fashion of service, our house was kept immaculately clean and organized. I couldn’t have asked for any better care and my memories of that time are so sweet and precious. Guruatma is such a focused and hard worker and she brings every bit of her love, awareness, creativity and spirituality to everything she does. Her service and sisterhood to us at a beautiful, but critical time of our lives was truly one of the greatest gifts I have ever received.
